Equinox Body and Home: The Story Behind Our Small Batch, Handmade Creations

Soap hasn't always been something I've given all the much thought to.

My requirements throughout my early adult years was that it should smell good, that's it. And then I became a parent. Not just to twins, but to premature twins. A whole new world of artificial fragrances and harmful ingredients was opened up to me, and the search was on to find products that were both clean and effective.

And let me tell you, there was not a whole lot out there.

In a world of artificial fragrances and harsh ingredients, I wanted something better for my skin and my family. A seed was planted, but the busy early years of parenting twin boys didn't allow much room for that seed to grow. But slowly I started researching, reading and learning the art and science of cold process soap making.

And now finally, that little seed has grown into a plant that's come to fruition.

I've fallen in love with the process! From carefully choosing each butter and oil fit for its purpose, curating the perfect blend of essential oils, the patience and anticipation that goes into the long curing wait. Soap making has been a return to simplicity and intention for me.

What small batch means to us.

Every batch of soap we make is carefully measure, mixed, poured, and cut by hand here in the Lowveld region of South Africa. Small batch means:

  • We know exactly what goes into every bar.

  • We can ensure quality in every step.

  • We can create with intention, using natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin and the earth.

Our soaps are free from synthetic fragrances and unnecessary additives. Instead, we use plant-based butters, oils, clays, essential oils and botanicals to create gentle, nourishing bars that cleanse effectively without stripping your skin.
